Christopher Wren
St Paul's Cathedral — London rebuilt
The astronomer-architect who rebuilt London after the Great Fire of 1666. St Paul's Cathedral — its dome the defining feature of the London skyline for three centuries — is the greatest English Baroque building. He designed 52 London churches, the Royal Observatory, and parts of Hampton Court. His epitaph in St Paul's reads: Si monumentum requiris, circumspice — if you seek his monument, look around you.
