Kontakia — greatest Byzantine hymnographer

The supreme poet-composer of the Byzantine Church. His kontakia — dramatic verse homilies sung to original melodies — are the high point of early Byzantine sacred music. Over 80 survive, blending theological depth with narrative vividness and emotional power.
