Giorgione
The Tempest — Venetian mood painting
The most mysterious figure in Renaissance art. Dead at 33, leaving barely a dozen attributed works — but those works changed painting. The Tempest is the first landscape in Western art where mood and atmosphere matter more than subject. Titian was his pupil and finisher of his paintings.
