San Marco frescoes — the blessed painter
The Dominican friar who painted paradise. His frescoes at San Marco in Florence — one in each monk's cell, designed for private meditation — are among the most serene and luminous images in all of art. Vasari said he never picked up a brush without first saying a prayer.
