Hunters in the Snow, peasant scenes — the Flemish Homer

The painter of the human comedy set in the Flemish countryside. His peasant festivals, proverb paintings, and the great seasonal landscapes — above all Hunters in the Snow — combine Bosch's teeming invention with a new warmth and breadth of vision. He is to Flemish painting what Shakespeare is to English literature: inexhaustible.
